The whales are back, which means Spring is really here. From Hermanus to Plettenberg Bay, whale watching is on everyone’s list of what to do in Cape Town and the Garden Route. The Hyde and Lion Roars have it covered for you: if you have a short stay at the Hyde in Seapoint, take a day trip to Hermanus. If you have more time available, take advantage of the Hyde’s partner hotel, The Robberg Beach Lodge, and enjoy a longer Whale Watching Tour that takes you to Hermanus and Plettenberg Bay in the Garden Route. Either way, we get you close to these amazing creatures.
From the Hyde Hotel, perfectly positioned in Seapoint, it’s an easy 90-minute drive to Hermanus, the whale-watching capital of the Cape. Your day trip gives you time for a few gentle hours of whale watching, a delicious lunch at any of the waterfront restaurants in Hermanus, and a wander through the galleries and gift shops before you return to the Hyde in the evening.
For the longer tour, overnight in Hermanus at any of our recommended accommodations, and head out to Plettenberg Bay the following morning. Your accommodation in Plettenberg Bay is at The Robberg Beach Lodge, set right at Robberg Beach in Plettenberg Bay. Here you can enjoy for two days of whales, dolphins and seals, as well as the pristine Robberg Nature Reserve.
