Blooming Wonderful – by end of September, beginning of October the gentle hills of the West Coast break out into an extravaganza of colour, as more than 1200 species of wildflowers burst into bloom. The Darling Wildflower Show, 20-26 September, is a great day trip for our guests at The Hyde. Now in its 96th year, the Show draws tourists, nature lovers, conservationists and photographers from all over the world.
Darling, set in the “Golden Mile” of the Cape Plant Kingdom, is just an hour’s drive from the Hyde, which makes it a wonderful day-trip for nature lovers. Craft and food stalls, tractor rides and a cornucopia of flower displays will delight guests of all ages.
The Show, presented by the Darling Wildflower Society, showcases the unique character of the area, as well as supporting the conservation of this remarkable and fragile floral heritage. The Society has worked with farmers in the area since 1917 to promote the conservation of the wildflower population.
In this way, the Darling farming community has played a central role in the maintenance of botanical diversity in the region, over several generations. Income from the entry tickets goes towards conservation initiatives run by the Darling Wildflower Trust.
